Pond Hockey Awesome!

As you may have noticed on our Facebook Page - this last Saturday was our annual Pond Hockey Fundraiser and let me be the first (well, I'm probably not actually the first) to say that it was an amazing day!

Nine teams signed up for the day - all prepared to win the coveted Golden Skate trophy. Teams came to us from Sundre, Edmonton, and Calgary. We even had some "free agents" sign up for the day to be placed on some teams that needed some extra legs.

The day started out at 9am with some pretty frigid temperatures. -24C to be exact. At this temperature...not much works (like us humans!). Not even the ice. Our Ice Maintenance teams were quick at work trying to patch large cracks in the ice from it being too brittle. The "Quadbonie" team on Rink 2 and our Ice Maintenance Rink 1 team worked hard to make sure the ice was as good as we could make it.

We kept trucking, patching, and playing and with each game - the temperature rose about 4 or 5 degrees. Before long - the ice starting working with us and conditions became near perfect just after lunch.

Games were close and competitive...not too many fights ;) - it was so much fun to watch so many people play hockey, ride our horse-drawn wagon, and bid on some pretty cool auction items.

There was another competition going on...this was for our Silent Auction items. We had a bunch of very cool and very delicious items up for sale. Amongst these items were a Signed Conor McDavid jersey, three different NHL games, a helicopter tour, and two "Life Changing" Peanut Butter Pies. I'll tell you - if anyone had their hearts set on walking away with one of those pies or the helicopter tour...there were a number of very competitive people that would have argued with you.

District 5 Slugs won the Golden Skate Trophy for the hockey portion of the day!
Linden captured the Golden Stick Trophy and custom Jerseys for being the Top Fundraising Team in 2016, raising over $7000. Keith Thiessen (front left) was the top fundraising individual for bring in just over $3000!
At the end of the day $39,300 was raised for camp and Linden walked away with the Golden Stick Trophy which is awarded to the team who raised the most for the Tournament. Their total was just over $7000!

Thank you so, SO much to all of the players, teams, volunteers, and spectators who made this day a success! We couldn't have done it without you!
