One Down...Five To Go!

Image
Our Cabin Fever continues to move forward.  The interior walls are now up in the new Sunwest cabin.  We only have five more to go! Here's Cam working hard. Only three boards left and we're finished. We've set a goal of finishing the cabins by the end of April in time for our busy season.  We need your help to reach that goal.  The exterior siding has arrived.  The flooring has been ordered.  The interior doors are on site.  The furnaces are on site.  The mattresses are on their way.  The only thing left is we now need you on site! If you know what a brad nailer is and are not afraid to use it, you are the exact person we're looking for!  You don't want to see me in a confined space with a brad nailer.  Not only do I measure six times and still end up being too short, a brad nailer in my hands could be dangerous.  The goal is to have the interior walls done in the next two weeks.  Consider joining us e...

January 25th Work Day

Image
We had a great w ork day on Saturday, January 25 th .   The sun was shining, the weather was warm and the food was fantastic.   Here's Ken braving the January temperature working his skills on the BBQ!   (tinkl ing the ivories comes to mind) The flame is all good though, just adds flavour! We had three projects we were working on.   The first project was to finish insulating the cabins.   Christoph, Sebastian , John and Owen ( far left in the group picture ) were the main insulation crew .  It seems like wearing flannel was the prerequisite. Sebastian and John were on the ground making sure the insulation was flowing.   Notice the high tech instrument John is using to break up the insulation.   To most eyes it would look like a piece of scrap lumber, but to the trained eye ...

The Cabins March On

Despite the winter weather that has descended upon us, the cabin fever project continues to move forward.  Mennonite Disaster Service brought us to lock up stage at the end of summer.  At our Camp Evergreen Board meeting in September we decided that finishing the cabins was a top priority for next summer!  We also decided that we needed as many volunteers as possible to make this a reality.  On November 16 we had our first work day and were able to insulate the walls.  Our seasonal staff have carried on the work during the week.  The walls and ceilings have poly.  The ceiling and bunks have been started. Join us Saturday, December 7 as we move forward with our next Work Day.  Breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. and if you would like to join us for Friday night just call camp and let us know.  We're pretty confident that by next Saturday there will be no snow.........well we're confident that there will be no snow inside the cabins!  Here's C...
