white christmas

so it would appear that we're going to have a white christmas after all! we got about 5-6 inches last night. glorious. i'm loving it because it's not cold. fluffy white snow with -5 weather is so perfect. i wish winter could stay like this forever.

sure - the roads aren't super d duper but all you do is drive slower and little more careful.

i went snow-shoeing today with camp's brand new (well - new to us) snow-shoes. we had 15 pairs donated which is very, very exciting. i'm planning on putting together a fantastic winter outdoor education program to pull in new groups during the winter. we're hoping to get approximately 15 pairs of non-wax cross country skies and a track setter to accompany the snow shoes. we'll teach orienteering (maybe combine with the snow shoes) and winter camping/survival skills...if we ever got enough snow we could build a quinsee's...that would be a lot of fun! i'm very stoked about the changes that are happening and all the potential!

and i also started on some details for our theme for summer 2009. it's very exciting stuff but a little top secret at this point but it's going to be very, very cool.

Ten years ago, an idea was born... Let's invite people to raise some money and play some hockey.  A pretty novel and pretty brilliant idea our Executive Director and (one of the) biggest Oilers fan I've ever met, Kerry Precht, can be thanked for. The tournament has brought players back year after year - many saying that it is what they scheduled their January around. It has been a day that many people come together each year to make happen. We had a humble beginning in 2010. Six teams and one ice rink. Our Site Manager, Dave Reimier had built a pull "zambonie" to flood the ice which we still use today (with some modifications). We raised $10,128 that first year. Our first Pond Hockey Rink in 2010 Our second, third, and fourth years showed a lot of growth. Six teams grew to eight which grew to ten. Keep Calm and Play Jug 'n' Jog

Jug 'n' Jog. If the world could just play more Jug 'n' Jog - I think it would be a happier place. It is quite possibly the number one, most singularly enjoyed game at camp. In fact - there are times when I think kids could come to camp, only play Jug 'n' Jog and leave being the happiest kids on Earth. In fact, we could almost be renamed Camp Jug 'n' Jog. And it's also funny - my computer or iPhone doesn't even recognize the words or phrase as being a spell check. That's when you know you talk about something a lot. You might think that those opening statements are strange or even foreign - maybe you don't even know what Jug 'n' Jog is...well, let me tell you! It's epic, it's fantastic, and it's played with recycling (we have to be good stewards, you know).
