Explorers and Half-way There!

Image
One hundred and fifty campers spread across five different programs joined us for camp this week. We had 16 Pit Crew finishing out their second week of camp, 16 Interns experiencing their first week as staff, 6 campers in our brand new Wrangler Up Sr. program where they learned what it takes to be an Evergreen Wrangler, 12 campers down at our Roughin' It Boys 2 camp and 100 Explorer campers at our Base Camp. We got a bit a rain and a bit of sunshine this week. Regardless of the weather - all of our campers played, competed, and couldn't be stopped from having fun. The weather even cleared up for our field BBQ on Wednesday so we could Party, eat some burgers, and finish up with Jug 'n' Jog. Our speaker this week was from Lethbridge, Alberta and one of our long standing staff members, Sarah Viejou (Renaissance). She started the week off by talking about lost coins and sheep (with the biggest, fluffiest sheep!!) and putting a puzzle together about how Jesus came to...

We Are Explorers!

Image
What an awesome week! Explorers are our new adventurers of the summer. They're so much fun to play games with - ultra enthusiastic and willing to try new things at every corner. They LOVE Willsonball (the moment a meal is done, there is atleast two cabins in the Willson Pit playing) and getting out on the activities. Mike and Joy share a lot of fun stories with us and if Testimony Sticks on Thursday was any evidence - these Explorers are going home with so much knowledge! They shared stories about a man named Saul, who did bad things but then turned to God, was forgiven, and then helped write part of the Bible and bring many more people to Jesus. They learned that God shines brighter than anything else in the world, that He created the universe, and that we, too, can be a light that shines for Jesus. Here are some of the other things our campers learned about God this week: I learned to shine light for God. I learned that God loves everyone and that we can be childr...

Explorers of Evergreen

Image
This week marked a few things for us here at Camp Evergreen. First of all - it was a new age for us. EXPLORERS! These are our Grades 3-5 kids. They're so much fun and full of energy. Everything is an adventure! Not only that...but Tuesday also marked our halfway point. Can you believe it? We're halfway through summer! Which is really only something we make a note off because at the beginning of each week - our staff acknowledge that it's the first week of camp for each one of the campers arriving and that they deserve our best. So tonight (yes, two hours after our Explorers depart), when our Family Campers arrive, it will be the first camp experience for our Family Campers. The weather was fantastic again this week week. Nearly all sun - only storms after we were all done playing.  The kids were amazing as we moved through the Evergreen Olympic Events and Chapel was as special as ever with Staff Alumni and speaker extrordinaire, Becca Mabbett, sharing the word with us...

Week Four Rocked!

Image
It has been a great week here. Sure - it started off rainy and wet but that only created a springboard of muddy Willsonball fun and beautiful weather to follow. It didn't matter if you visited our Trails Away site, the teepees with our Roughin' It Boys, or on-site with our Explorer kids - CAMP ROCKED THIS WEEK! Our Interns are getting ready for their second full immersion week in their chosen area of focus which happens next week. Interns choose one of Cabin Leader, Barn, Kitchen, A/V or A-Team to train in. They will fill one of those roles next week during Sparks! And of course - we can't forget our Pit Crew 2 kids who are wrapping up their last week at camp. They have been working hard and playing hard. I've even heard rumours of a late night Sundae Party last night. Our speaker, Kathryn talked about Rack, Shack, and Benny this week. Emphasizing that God is with us wherever we go, that we can talk to God and He will always answer us (even if not exactly the an...
