Explorers of Evergreen
This week marked a few things for us here at Camp Evergreen. First of all - it was a new age for us. EXPLORERS! These are our Grades 3-5 kids. They're so much fun and full of energy. Everything is an adventure! Not only that...but Tuesday also marked our halfway point. Can you believe it? We're halfway through summer!
Which is really only something we make a note off because at the beginning of each week - our staff acknowledge that it's the first week of camp for each one of the campers arriving and that they deserve our best. So tonight (yes, two hours after our Explorers depart), when our Family Campers arrive, it will be the first camp experience for our Family Campers.
The weather was fantastic again this week week. Nearly all sun - only storms after we were all done playing. The kids were amazing as we moved through the Evergreen Olympic Events and Chapel was as special as ever with Staff Alumni and speaker extrordinaire, Becca Mabbett, sharing the word with us. Becca is the Queen of Illustrations and had the kids captivated each time she stood up to speak.
On the first night Becca brought in a flashlight and talked about our theme verse from John 15:5 - how we need to Remain in Jesus. She described Jesus being like the batteries and that if we don't remain in Him - our light won't shine. The next day, Becca used Play-doh to talk about how God created everything, including us! That we were made on purpose and that none of us are mistakes.
Then on Tuesday, Becca used Disney Trivia to talk about how we can learn all kinds of things but knowing people takes more time and how God is the good shepherd and knows us.
Wednesday was super memorable...do you remember? Becca rode her bike into the Activity Centre. She talked about the rim, spokes (that's us!), and hub (that's God) of the tires on her bike and how as we remain and draw close to Jesus, we also draw close to others. Love Jesus - Love others.
Finally - last night Becca used a very cool illustration with dirty water and a clear liquid (bleach). She showed us how God is pure and sin is not. And when we sin - we become "dirty" too. But God forgives us and purifies us because Jesus defeated sin by dying on the cross.
Testimony sticks with the little ones is always so cute. There are more of these little ones that want to share so I hope they will go home and tell each one of you what God taught them this week through our chapels and just being in God's awesome creation all week. Here are a few:
Here are the songs that we sung in Chapel this week:
That's it! Week four is in the books and we're about to start Family Camp tonight! Pray for us as many of our staff are in the middle of a 14 day working streak. Check back Monday for the Family Camp Wrap Up!
Much love, Jogee
