Seniors Day is Coming!

Image
We have a lot of favourite days around here. A little like when Bacon or Geico also talk about their favourite part of chapel. Warm Ups are their favourite. MTWI Games are their favourite. Worship is their favourite. The speaker is their favourite. Basically...there are a lot of favourites. In fact...the whole entire thing is their favourite. So when I say that Seniors Day is my favourite just know that I have a lot of favourites. Seriously though - Seniors Day is amazing. This year, Seniors Day happens on Friday, May 20th. Can you imagine what might be better than having coffee, cinnamon buns, coffee, cookies, lunch made by Ken, opportunities to shoot bows and arrows, visit the horses, share stories about camp, have community with our staff, speak German with some of our Germans, and have more coffee and cookies? I think my favourite part of Seniors Day might be the stories about camp. Like that one time a black bear got into the kitchen (not the current kitchen - the ki...

The Great Dinosaur Adventure

Image
I love our German Adventure Days. It's a time we carve out in our schedule to take our German volunteers on some kind of adventure as a way to say thank you or honour them for their service here at camp. It's like when we take them to the Coast . Horseshoe Canyon Yesterday we adventured to Drumheller which is one of my favourite places to go in Alberta. I love the Badlands and the Royal Tyrrell Museum. I also love learning new things - I get all these questions...like why is the museum called what it is? I know the Tyrrell part but why Royal...well - our Queen apparently visited the museum and it was renamed to the "Royal Tyrrell Museum". Who knew that our Queen dug dinosaurs! Some pretty impressive acrobatics from Hanna, Mirjana, Miriam and Daniel! We started out at Horseshoe Canyon which is the most amazing starting place. You can't see the canyon...even when you park facing it - it isn't until you get out that you see how cool it is. A collective ...

One Step at a Time

Asking for help is not one of my favourite things to do. Independence has always been something I've been good at. Until now. You see, seven weeks ago I got my heel bone and achilles tendon reconstructed. It's a pretty big surgery that results in about six months on crutches. The surgery wasn't a surprise and I had thought that I had prepared myself for the first leg of the journey. I had someone coming to check on me but in my mind - I was going to do this on my own. I, Jogee, was going to remain independent! Boy oh boy, was I wrong. Everything was more difficult; making meals, feeding my dog, moving laundry. Everything. Was. Hard. I quickly discovered that there would be no getting through this without help. It's one thing to ask for rides to and from work or take Koda for a walk but I found myself resisting from asking for help in all areas. Areas like - cleaning my house and grocery shopping. It became hard for me to ask for help in these things because they...

Mmmm, juice.

Image
This summer, we received a very generous donation of Oasis juice boxes, from Lassonde Industries, in Calgary . We are so thankful! The juice boxes accompanied our Adventure Classic, Roughin' It and Trails Away campers on their out trips and they helped us (as a not-for-profit organization) keep our grocery bill down a bit! The Adventure kids demonstrated their gratitude with excessive photos of them enjoying their Oasis beverages.
