2018 in a Nutshell

Image
Sometimes when people ask me if things have settled down at camp I want to chuckle. Not because it's a silly question - more because it can feel crazy how far in advance we are planning. Not only that, but a few short days after Impact ended we were training our Fall staff, jumped right into Summer's End Family Camp, and then started receiving Guest Groups on site. There really isn't a "settling" that happens here. Just transitions into the next season. Summer has been packed up in my office, it's true. I've rolled up the signs that read Lost and Found, Registration A-K, The Nurse and stored them for the winter. Summer planning takes a cat nap in September. By October, registration forms for 2018, speakers, and volunteers all start getting worked on. It's exciting to watch plans build and develop. Summer camp isn't the only thing we plan for right now. In fact, it's only one piece of what we do. Retreats and Fundraisers are being planned...

A Fundraiser from another Galaxy!

Happy Easter Week Friends! It's hard to believe that as I type this April is already a third gone and our Spring Staff arrive in less than three weeks. Wowzers! I can barely believe that. We've got a lot of events coming up in the next two and a half months. We just wanted to alert you to them so that you can mark your calendar and get registered for the events. Spring Fundraiser The first event that is coming is our Spring Fundraiser. This annual event is not one to miss. It's out of this world (this year especially because it's a Star Wars theme!). We really like to have fun with our fundraisers - I mean, we're camp people, right? And what would camp be without a little dressing up and laughing over an amazing meal cooked by Ken? One of the questions that I have been getting is whether or not you HAVE to dress up...Dressing up is not required! But we will certainly welcome any Jedis, Padawans, and Vaders that might saunter through the doors that night. Ti...

Father and Son Retreat in Pictures

This last weekend was our Father and Son Retreat! And wow - it nearly knocked our socks off even before it happened! More than 80 Fathers and Sons joined us for the weekend. I have a feeling that next year there will be space issues. Want to help us solve that? Go to www.reachinghigher.ca to find out! Our speaker, Chris Ney, spoke to our Fathers and Sons about Identity: where they find their identity, who people see them as, and how we are to be reflecting God. It was an incredible weekend in our sessions, activities, and in the Dining Hall...oh boy, the food was unbelievable! Rather than try and describe the retreat - let's just show it to you in pictures. I think you'll quickly understand why Father and Son is where it's at! Well - that's a wrap! As you can tell - it was an amazing weekend with our Dad's and Sons. I hope you can join us next year...and in 10 days (June 25th)...when our AGM and Open House happens!! Registe...

father & son retreat: it's a wrap!

Father & Son Retreat, two weekends ago, was super fun! Our speaker was Rob Holland and everyone really enjoyed him. I know this because I read the evaluations and the fathers who evaluated shared resounding appreciation of the message Rob shared. (As I am neither a father nor a son, I didn't attend chapel ... so I can't report in further details. Maybe someone will leave a comment?) The fathers and sons also reported that they appreciated the time they were able to spend to together, and the opportunity to "get back to the basics". Our staff had lots of fun too. We're already looking forward to next year (you can mark it in your calendars: June 8-10, 2012). Bottle rockets! Bottle rockets were the funnnnnnest. Hiiiiyah! Jasper is now a wrangler. Sometimes. Contrary to tale told by the full out wrangler jacket (slicker? is that what they're called?), it was very nice day on Saturday! We're 64% sure Owen has a future as a jockey. Good form, right? The Ch...

So, our Father & Son retreat is coming up so so so soon! June 3-5. Maybe we'll have less rain by then? Yikes, we've got lots of water around here right now! This will be our second Father & Son retreat: last year was super fun (look how much fun Eli's having in the picture to your left). We are definitely looking forward to this retreat returning for another year! We have crazy fun ziplining, climbing the wall and shooting bow & arrows! Hopefully the pond survives the huge amounts of water flowing in from the creek right now ... I'll post pictures of our almost-a-flood conditions later on. We still have space for registrations so you should consider joining us for the weekend ... Dads, it's a great time to play with your sons and build foundations and memories that will last a life time! Our speaker for Father & Son Retreat is Rob Holland. Rob is one of our neighbours, and a popular speaker at Bergen Evangelical Missionary Church, just down the r...
