Thundering Trail Blazers

Image
This week was full of fun, Jesus, and thunder. Every day, it seemed, had storm clouds roll in and thunder. Fortunately for us, it seemed to only really rain when we were inside for meals or Chapel. Activities like Horsemanship, Zipline, Canoeing, archery, and more! These kids played our wide games with enthusiasm and gusto - you could often hear them playing halfway across camp. I hope all of the parents enjoy the singing today at Closing as much as we have all week. This week our speaker was from Dalhousie Church in Calgary, Brennan Dyck. It was so much fun to see the kids interact with Brennan in chapel and during the games. Last night we had our testimony "rocks"...rocks because for the third week in a row, we were rained out from our fire ring. The weather wasn't a downer though - as always - testimony nights are MY favourite. I absolute love hearing what kids are learning about God and what they're experiencing at camp. Here is a small sample of the testimo...

Trail Blazers 2 is in the wind!

Image
As I write this, we have checked our half way point. Our fourth camp is finishing up and we only have four to go. It's always amazing to us here how it seems like summer camp will never arrive for 10 months of the year and then all of a sudden we're halfway done and we don't know where the time has gone. We had our second of our largest weeks of the summer with Charge 2, Roughin' It Girls 2, Trail Blazers 2, Pit Crew 2, and Internships all being full. 163 campers in total were here! That's crazy!! The week blew in with a start - quite literally actually. We had a really big wind storm on Sunday evening which caused us to pull our two out-trips in just to be careful. They were chopping at the bit to get back out to the bush next morning doing their out-trip thing. Those Out-trip kids are just not made for civilization. :) We played Jug 'n' Jog, Ketchup to the Flag, Captain Sonar, Collector's Choice...sometimes I wonder how we fit everything in. ...

Amazing Trail Blazers!

Image
What a week! It was such an amazing week with our Trail Blazer 1 campers, Roughin' It Girls 1, Charge 1, Pit Crew 1, and Interns. The weather was  pretty wet in the beginning but that made it's own fun. By Wednesday, the sun was out and we were playing Jug 'n' Jog, Captain Sonar, and all the fun outdoor games we could get our hands on. Chapel this week was amazing. These kids were crazy good singers. One of the things that gave me shivers was the unexpected singing of Oh Canada during our last lunch, started by Crestwood. That rendition was good enough to be on any Stampede Grandstand show. I definitely got the shivers.  J Janzen, from Abbotsford, BC, was our speaker during the week and shared a lot of stories from his childhood and from the Bible. He taught us that we are created with super powers, that we have the power to serve, and that Jesus is the ultimate superhero and we can join his team by saying yes. Campers had a ton of...

Week 3: A Sunny Time for Trail Blazers!

Image
Wow! The weather was nearly the exact opposite from last week. We had amazing weather all week long and boy oh boy was it nice. The weather meant our outdoor BBQ was rocking on Wednesday evening with water games and Jug 'n' Jog to boot. All sunshine and no rain meant that Semi-Pro skills were all running full tilt and we indulged in extra water games to keep kids cool and happy. The speaker this week was J Janzen from Abbotsford, BC. J is an expert storyteller and artist and it's always amazing to watch the kids as J is illustrating a story while also telling it. Mix that with his Vintage Film Features from the 1970s and you have some pretty captivated kids (and not just kids...all of us adult kids too). As the week wound down - we got to my favourite part...Testimony Sticks. And there was some good stuff that kids were sharing. Here are just a few of them: God is with you no matter where you go so if you're in troubled times, He will comfort you. You can mee...

Week 1 : Trail Blazers 1

Image
It all began this week. Summer 2016 sky rocketed into action with five camps all starting. If you've visited our website in recent weeks you would have seen a large list of camps with the word FULL beside them all. Nearly all of the camps that started this week were soundly in that boat. Not only did the summer start with a bang but so did the weather. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday all saw their fair share of thunderstorms but the kids stayed dry and continued to have fun. With the start of a new summer comes many new games and, of course, the traditional standard favourites like Jug 'n' Jog. Our Olympic Theme this summer is quite timely and has got the kids super pumped about every "event" they participate in throughout the day. Water Triathlon! In fact, just last night the kids participated in a very unique Water Triathlon - Armpit/knee relay, Shaving Cyclist Xtreme (you're going to have to ask your kids about this one), and the shot put (inv...

And We're Off!!

Image
We started summer off with a smashingly great week! The weather was great (it only rained one night) and kids had a blast across the board. We had 158 campers enrolled in camps this week - Internships, Pit Crew, Trail Blazers, Roughin' It Girls 1, and Charge 1 all ran at capacity this week. What a way to start summer! Whether the kids were enjoying what we like to call "extreme colouring contests" out at Charge (paintball) or a relaxed, yet adventurous experience at our teepee site (Roughin' It Girls) - or maybe running around sleeping in cabins up here on our Base Camp...fun was had, ridiculous games were played, and Jesus was present. Our Interns and Pit Crew are part of our discipleship campers where campers are learning how to be Camp Evergreen Staff. They work hard to clean facilities, serve the Base Camp kids, and learn about God in new and deeper ways. There were moments this week when I had to sit back and laugh as Lendrum Lodge girls walked by with ...

Remembering Trail Blazers and Adventure Classic

Image
As registrations keep pouring in - our excitement about the summer just keeps on growing. Check out what happened last year in Trail Blazers II: I can't wait. Only 159 days until Trail Blazers I...are you coming? Oh man, I just can't wait. You know what else I can't wait for? Adventure Classic. Which starts in only 152 days! Adventure Classic is one of our Out-Trips that heads out to the Ya Ha Tinda where our campers and staff go natural rock climbing, white water rafting, hiking, and camping. It's super fun and the Ya Ha Tinda is like a giant outdoor playground! There's no better way to grow closer in your walk with God than being smack-dab in the middle of mountains and creation. Check out some pictures from Adventure: If that doesn't want to make you want to go Adventuring with us...I don't know what will.
