Remembering Trail Blazers and Adventure Classic

Image
As registrations keep pouring in - our excitement about the summer just keeps on growing. Check out what happened last year in Trail Blazers II: I can't wait. Only 159 days until Trail Blazers I...are you coming? Oh man, I just can't wait. You know what else I can't wait for? Adventure Classic. Which starts in only 152 days! Adventure Classic is one of our Out-Trips that heads out to the Ya Ha Tinda where our campers and staff go natural rock climbing, white water rafting, hiking, and camping. It's super fun and the Ya Ha Tinda is like a giant outdoor playground! There's no better way to grow closer in your walk with God than being smack-dab in the middle of mountains and creation. Check out some pictures from Adventure: If that doesn't want to make you want to go Adventuring with us...I don't know what will.

Mmmm, juice.

This summer, we received a very generous donation of Oasis juice boxes, from Lassonde Industries, in Calgary . We are so thankful! The juice boxes accompanied our Adventure Classic, Roughin' It and Trails Away campers on their out trips and they helped us (as a not-for-profit organization) keep our grocery bill down a bit! The Adventure kids demonstrated their gratitude with excessive photos of them enjoying their Oasis beverages.

We run three weeks of Adventure Classic each summer: it's an forgettable week in the Ya Ha Tinda, with rafting, hiking, climbing and all sorts of fun. Jasper wrote about Adventure here and we included just a few pictures with that post. Well, Josie, one of our excellent Adventure leaders, gave me a whole stack of photos (thanks, Josie!) and I'm going to share some of them with you. Sadly, I can't figure out how to rotate the portrait pictures. You'll have to bend your neck. (Sorry.) Hiking to Eagle Lake ( I really like how the camper on the left side of the left-hand photo just above is stepping on Jasper. Tee hee. ) White Water Rafting with Mukwah Rock Climbing Waterfall Day

So I have successfully avoided writing on the blog for this long but no longer. My name is Jasper and I have worked at camp for 5 summers and 3 springs. I come from a small farming community called Gem and I really enjoy the outdoors. This summer, I have been leading a program called Adventure Classic and it has been a fantastic part of this summer for me, so I am going to tell you a little bit about it. So here is a rundown of how the week works: Sunday afternoon, everyone arrives at camp. Once everyone has arrived, we drive out to the Ya Ha Tinda, where we tent for the week at Eagle Lake campground. While there, we hike out to Eagle Lake, we go white water rafting with Mukwah rafting tours , we rock climb and (if the water is not too high) go to some natural waterslides. If the water's too high for the waterslides, we hike out to Bighorn Falls. Back at the camp site we cook excellent meals, play some capture the flag, or just chill around the fire and have some ...

The conclusion of our out-tripping fun blog post series! We've posted profiles of our three super cool out trips: Outback Adventure , Roughin' It and Adventure Classic over the last three weeks -- check the blog archives to see OA and RI, if you missed 'em. (If you click on the names of the camps, you'll hop right over to the info page on our website, which tells you how to register!) [Note: I've tried to fix the spacing and fonts four times now, and they refuse to be consistent. Grrr.] Adventure Classic I asked Ben* to write something about his Adventure Classic adventures. Following is Ben's Adventure Classic story (with help from Jesse). It was as much an adventure for the leaders as the kids (what a cliché). Playing Mafia around the fire one night, we were all laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe. Another night started cutting wood at five, and did nothing but cook and eat hobos until it was totally dark and we could barely pack up the coolers, from l...
