Talking Tuesdays - Rebekah Williams

Hey there,

If you follow us on Social Media, I'm sure you've seen that we are 'getting our poop in a group'! We've got heavy machinery all over site as they dig holes and get ready to put in our new septic system. It might not be glamorous, but it sure is exciting as this is the gateway project for all other developments that may come to Camp in the future. A great big THANK YOU to all the Reaching Higher donors that have helped get us to this place!

Today, we're continuing our Talking Tuesday Series when we take some time to introduce you to the people that keep Camp running all year long. So, grab your hot beverage of choice, take a seat, and get to know Board Member and Board Secretary, Rebekah Williams:

How long have you worked at/been connected camp?

My whole life!  I attended Camp Evergreen as a camper all throughout elementary school and junior high school.  My family also came for church picnics and family camp.  I volunteered in the kitchen in high school and attended the Counselor-in-Training program.  I didn't work at Camp Evergreen, however -- I served for 8 summers at Stillwood Camp in B.C., lifeguarding, cabin leading, and on the program team.  I returned to volunteering at Camp Evergreen as a nurse in the summer of 2013.

How long have you been in your current position?

I joined the board in 2016, and have been serving as the secretary for the last 4 years.

What do you do outside of Camp?

I am a Registered Nurse at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary.

What is your favourite thing about Camp ministry?

My favourite thing about camp ministry is that there is something for everyone!  Our whole family can participate in & through the ministry of camp.  Camp ministry is such an easy thing to invite others into - who doesn't want to come have fun, trying out new things at a place as friendly & welcoming as Camp Evergreen?

Why is Camp Ministry important to you?

Camp is place that breaks down the barriers of every day life.  Amazing outdoor experiences that point to Jesus.  Camp is a place where I worked out my faith in deep personal ways, and have grown as a leader.  I love that a little bit of investment in camp ministry goes a long ways -- it reaches across demographics and generations for lasting impact.

How have you seen the Lord work at Camp throughout Covid-19?

On the board we often remind each other that "Covid didn't take God by surprise".  YET AGAIN, we have opportunity to stop and see how God made the impossible, possible.  Covid has provided many new opportunities and avenues for ministry, including making new connections and ministry partners.  It is only by God's provision and sustenance that camp has actually thrived during this 'season' of Covid-19.

What is one thing you would want to tell any future camp staff?

You belong at Evergreen!  You will never regret investing your time, energy, & money at camp.  You can't help but leave camp different than when you arrived -- bolder, more confident, and hopefully more aware of your identity in Christ.  But don't forget to pack for every type of weather, and you may never quite catch up on sleep...

Thanks Rebekah!

Be sure to check out what we've got going on at Camp by visiting www.camp-evergreen.com/events-and-retreats. We have a FREE event happening on Saturday, May 1st in Calgary - the Fun in the Sun Race! Get your family together and be ready for a day of racing around Northern Calgary while you participate in classic Camp activities in a safe and distanced way!

That's all for me today! If there is any way we can be praying for you, please don't hesitate to reach out with an email to guestservices@camp-evergreen.com and our permanent staff team will be more than happy to be praying for you.
