Galactic Success!
May has begun and we've already had a very full couple of weeks! On May 1st, we started our Spring Staff Training. As you read on our Reaching Higher Blog last Friday, Redberry Bible Camp joined us on-site for the week. It was great to connect with our sister camp in Saskatchewan as we both prepare our staff for our Guest Groups and the coming Summer Season.
Staff Training is not for the faint of heart. From 8am to 9pm - our staff are learning how to facilitate our Outdoor Education program for the coming Guest Groups, how to be amazing hosts, and to shine the light of Jesus Christ to everyone that comes on-site. Then they worked through Safe Place, Staff Conduct, and Crisis Management. There may have been some paintballing mid-week just to decompress a bit.
If THAT wasn't busy enough - we had our Spring Fundraiser: Evergreen Night Out on Saturday, May 6th. We just love to have fun and what better way to celebrate what is going on at camp and raise some funds for our programs than to do it Star Wars style.
Lots of work went into decorating for the evening. John Toews, our Director of Activities worked hard to create our very own Han Solo in Carbonite and many of the table center pieces came from his and the Baerg's personal collections.
501 Brigade showed up to give us that "cherry" on top as two Storm Troopers greeted guests as they arrived. I totally geeked out when the white Storm Trooper even had a voice modulator when he talked to you. Whhhhhaaaaat?!
Gery Schubert invited us to join the Rebel Alliance as Jedi Cadets to save the Evergreen Galaxy. If you've EVER been to a Gery Schubert performance - you'll know it's one hilarious ride. There was lightsabre battles, pod-car racing, and some pretty funny stories that were acted out by a very willing crowd.
Check out some of the awesome decorations we had:
So many donations came in throughout the night. I must say though - the item of the night seemed to be those Peanut Butter Pies from Country Cousins in Linden - one of them going for $1000. Those are some pretty amazing pies and I think the crowd knew it.
The night raised $21,788 for Camp Evergreen programs. We're so thankful for all of the attendees, Auction donors, and for Gery. We could not have done it without you!
One last thank you goes out to our amazing staff and the Dalhousie Youth that worked incredibly hard to make the whole day from set up to take down a success. Stay tuned for what will happen next year...we've got something amazing planned!
Peace,
Jogee
