Oh CANADA!

Hi! It's the Germans: Hannah, Christoph and Fritzi.
We would like to share some of our funny, sometimes pretty crazy and confusing experiences here in Canada with you.

You think, there's nothing really extraordinary and interesting about your country?

YOU ARE WRONG!

For us every single day is an adventure and we learn something new.

Everything starts with
LANGUAGE: When you try to explain a camper that they have to put on the harness like a pair of “trousers”, (instead of “pants”). Or a boy tells you he will have “belay lesson” and you think he does “ballet”.

ACCOMMODATION: Do you live in a wooden house (with carpet on your stairs down to the basement)? We usually don't. The typical German house is built out of bricks and has no plain front yard! We don't have fans in German houses, not even in the bathrooms.

FOOD:
People with a huge love for Bacon, Ranch dressing, Burgers and Tim Hortons-Coffee. We rather prefer Sauerkraut and soft Pretzels.

CHURCHES:
The typical German Churches are either Protestant or Catholic. We often sing (older) hymns and have impressive cathedrals. We really like the variety of Churches here and the modern worship.

CHARACTERS :
We would say that Germans are usually really direct. Canadians although do not want to hurt anyone and often prefer to be more indirect. They are so open-minded, friendly and welcoming concerning foreign people.

TRADITIONS AND HOLIDAYS:
Funny Traditions like growing a moustache in November or opening Garage sales on Saturdays is what we really appreciate.

We got to experience our first Thanksgiving, which was awesome! The typical Turkey-dinner is really YUMMY. In Germany there's no traditional meal for holidays. We are really looking forward to our first Canadian Christmas!!

We made the potatoes for the staff Thanksgiving!

We are getting baked Canadians. -Canadianization :) - (translated - they are becoming Canadians!)
