Farewell Geico

This week is a little bit different of a blog post than our regular-scheduled ones. Today we want to take some time to say thanks to one of our Permanent Staff members who has moved on from camp this fall.

Taylor Jenkins came to Evergreen five and a half years ago from Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island. I picked her up at the end of April 2011. I don't think either of us really thought that season would turn into five and a half years. It was pitch black and even when it's light out - driving to camp can seem like you're driving into the middle of no where.

It took some time to get Taylor settled at camp. The Foothills of Alberta is a very different landscape than the Georgia Strait and large ocean of BC. Probably the hardest thing for Taylor to get used to was our freezing temperatures...which weren't necessarily freezing all the time but I don't think her winter jackets ever got packed away. It was only recently when she saw me pull two rubbermaids out of my shed labelled, "Winter" when she looked at me and said, "So people actually put their winter stuff into storage? That's a thing here?". Needless to say - there were summer evenings when you could see her wearing her down jacket.

At Evergreen, we desire to see Lives Transformed by the Power of Jesus. It is not just something that we pray for and desire to see in our campers - it is something that we pray for in our staff too. It's an immense privilege to see campers and staff alike be transformed by the power of Jesus.

From leading Adventure Camps out in the mountains to building moustache teeter-totters - Evergreen will fondly remember Taylor.

It has been so exciting to see the growth over the years. More than that - exciting to see her go from a summer staff, to a year round, staff to our Program Director. Taylor's dedication and leadership her at the camp has been amazing and we have loved having her be a part of this ministry.

Geico and Jogee
Camp is a really unique place for a lot of reasons - one of them being the close community that staff and campers experience here. Although it's always hard to say goodbye to folks when they move on from the camp - we're always so thankful for the time that God has provided for us here.

Thank you Taylor (Geico) for all of your years of commitment - we will miss you. We're excited about what God has for you in the future!
