We're Looking For A Few Good Men

As of yesterday we were 100 campers ahead of last years numbers at this time.  100 campers!  That's a lot of campers.  Last year we had nearly 800 campers join us for summer and we're on track to pass that number this summer.

Let's think about our campers for a minute.  Most campers are pretty excited to come to camp.  They start packing a week or two before camp starts.  They make sure their flashlight has new batteries.  Mom makes sure they have sunscreen.  Sunday morning of registration they are most likely the first ones up and the first ones in the car ready to go.  They are excited to come to camp!
I can remember being a camper many, many years ago.  In fact if you scroll down our blog posts you can read about it a few blogs ago.  The one thing that stands out in my mind to this day is my counselor Phil.

We have a bit of a problem here at Camp Evergreen.  It's a good problem to have because it encourages us to work hard, to pray hard and to trust that God will provide.  Our problem is that we still need a few good men to join us this summer.

By a few we mean four (4), which coincidentally is my favourite number.  Now you could say that's quite a few, but I just looked it up and there are approximately 4.146 million people in Alberta as of October 2014 (never mind the rest of Canada!)  We can safely say that half the population are male - so four is really not that big of a number.

By men, in our mind, you're over the age of 18.  You probably voted in this week's election.  You might be in university or Bible college.  You might be working and need to take a week off (or the summer) to come to camp.  You might even know how to do your own laundry.

By joining us, we would be excited if you stayed for the entire summer - eight weeks.  But we realize that might be a bit of a longer commitment than you were thinking.  (Let's be honest you probably weren't even thinking about committing to camp until you started reading this blog)  Even if you could join us for one week that would be great.

By this summer, that's exactly what we mean - this summer.  Let's not worry about next summer just yet.

Let me sum it up by saying that if you are a good man and you join us it will mean not only that you are an answer to our prayer, hard work and trusting in God - it will mean that we can effectively share the Good News of Jesus Christ with campers like this.

Or this camper.

Or this camper.
