He shoots....he SCORES!!!

Those words floated like sweet music through the trees on January 10th. Eight teams and dozens of spectators joined us for one of our favourite days of the year: Pond Hockey!

The day was beautiful. It sat right around nine degrees and even though we got a bit of snow throughout the day - the hockey was awesome. I had the privilege of being the whistle-blowers on Rink One and it was so much fun watching teams play.

We had teams from across central Alberta. Lendrum from Edmonton even came with custom jerseys! They looked pretty flash with the Camp Evergreen toques that we gave all of the players! We had a number of teams from the Calgary area and one from Linden.

And what good is a hockey competition with out the Commentators? A big thanks go out to our returning Colour Commentator, Tom Mulhern and our newly discovered, David Song, as our Play-by-Play. Between those two you knew everyone who "blew a tire" on the ice and what most players/spectators had for breakfast (thanks Tom!). But that's not all you would've have heard during the day...no, no...there was something even more...hockey-ish (is that a word?). It was the beautiful Hockey Organ played by Graham Doerksen throughout the day. It was masquerading as our camp van to keep it warm but it was awesome. Such a great addition to the day.

We had both rinks humming with excitement all day. Our Ice Kings (that's what I like to call our Maintenance Team who has diligently built our two Rinks over the last two months) kept the ice surfaces pristine during the tournament.

At the end of the day - there had to be a winner. And at Camp Evergreen - that actually means two winners! We award the Golden Skate to the winning Hockey Team of the day, which was the Kingsmiths from Calgary, AB. We also give the Golden Stick to the top Fundraising Team of the tournament which this year was Lendrum from Edmonton, AB raising over $12,000. Wow!! It was an amazing day indeed - all of the teams did a fantastic job of fundraising and taking part in our event because the total (right now) that has been raised through Pond Hockey is $29,500!!! Praise God!!!

We just want to thank you for another amazingly successful Pond Hockey Day. We look forward to 2015 with great anticipation in what God is going to do at camp and through all of us. Please check Facebook for more pictures and updates to the total raise.
